Be dates "The bread of the desert" called. They are considered to be very valuable because they are easily digestible, vitamin and mineral-rich fruits, which with their sugar content quickly provide energy. A must for every desert traveler, but also for every nutrition-conscious European. In addition, dates are very rich in magnesium, B vitamins and fiber, which our intestines really enjoy. The glycemic index, however, is very low.1,2
Dried dates contain an antioxidant capacity of 3895 µmol TE (ORAC value = Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity).
By consuming foods rich in antioxidants, the body's defense mechanism can be strengthened and an overproduction of free radicals can be balanced out. An ORAC daily requirement between 5000 and 7000 is recommended.3
Our organic Fairtrade date halves are extra sweet dates cut in half. The consistency is soft.
Origin and manufacture:
We source our organic Fairtrade date halves exclusively from Tunisia. In addition to the difficult economic and political situation, it is particularly important for Tunisia to produce Fairtrade products.
The country is characterized by tourism and the associated extremely high water consumption. On the other hand, there are small farming families who fight for traditional agriculture and a healthy approach to nature and people.
The cooperation with FAIRTRADE enables the farmers and their families a secure income and the children new perspectives.
The harvest of the date or the date plants is very daring, from a European point of view, because the cutting is done by hand, high up in the date trees. Removing the date from the perennial, sorting, pitting, halving and packing are also manual work. The only advantage is that the date is already completely dry, because nature does this work when the dates are still hanging on the trees.
In Austria, the dates are pressure treated as standard. With pressure removal, the interaction of pressure and time ensures absolute freedom from pests.
