Cashew nuts are also characterized by a high content of magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and copper. Magnesium is an essential mineral. Furthermore, cashews help to supply the body with vitamin E, vitamin B1, niacin, iron and zinc.
The essential amino acid tryptophan, which our body converts into serotonin and melatonin, can provide more inner peace, serenity and contentment [1 and 2].
The name "Cashew" derives from the language of the Tupi Indians, who called the tree Acaju or kidney-shaped tree because the end of the fruit looks kidney-shaped. The actual cashew apple is only used locally in some countries because it has a very tart, bitter taste that is not for everyone. However, the cashew nuts are very popular with young and old thanks to their soft and gentle nutty taste.
Cashews contain an antioxidant capacity of 1948 µmol TE (ORAC value = Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity). By consuming foods rich in antioxidants, the defense mechanism in the body can be strengthened and an overproduction of free radicals can be balanced out. An ORAC daily requirement between 5000 and 7000 is recommended .
Our refined organic cashews are very tasty and immediately aromatic, because the flavors are particularly effective due to the gentle roasting. The consistency of the nuts is very pleasantly soft and yet crunchy, just as they should be.
We source our cashews from West Africa and Vietnam. The areas are largely organically certified and are managed by the small farmers who live there. Thanks to the partnership-based cooperation, the farmers can earn their livelihood securely and independently.
Did you know:
The up to 10 cm long, pear- to paprika-shaped cashew apples (cashew apples) grow on the cashew tree. When ripe, these stone fruits are yellow-orange to red in color. At the end of the cashew apple is the seed (the cashew nut). The seeds of this apple, incorrectly called a cashew nut. There is only one seed per cashew apple, this is the main reason for the increased price worldwide.
After harvesting, the cashew nut is carefully removed from the hard shell in several production steps. This removes both the hard shell and the underlying cashew oil. The core that is now exposed is gently dried and then carefully sorted and handpicked. The harvest, drying and sorting takes place under high hygiene standards and with great care.
When they arrive in Austria, the cashews are lightly salted, gently roasted and immediately packed by us. For even better quality, we have chosen a special packaging that better locks in the taste and aroma.
