Cashew nuts are also characterized by a high content of magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and copper. Magnesium is an essential mineral. Furthermore, cashews help to supply the body with vitamin E, vitamin B1, niacin, iron and zinc. The essential amino acid tryptophan, which our body converts into serotonin and melatonin, can ensure more inner peace, serenity and contentment. The name "Cashew" derives from the language of the Tupi Indians, who called the tree Acaju or kidney-shaped tree because the end of the fruit looks kidney-shaped. The actual cashew apple is only used locally in some countries, because it has a very bitter taste that is not for everyone. However, the cashew nuts are very popular with young and old thanks to their soft and gentle nutty taste. Cashews contain an antioxidant capacity of 1948 µmol TE (ORAC value = Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity). By consuming foods rich in antioxidants, the defense mechanism in the body can be strengthened and an overproduction of free radicals can be balanced out. An ORAC daily requirement between 5000 and 7000 is recommended.
