Our ancestors used the Cornelian cherry for various ailments, such as kidney stones, red dysentery and blood speyen, and Hildegard von Bingen also recommended it for stomach problems and people who had celiac disease. She attributed cleansing effects to her stomach and intestines. .
Our organic cornel cherries have a very fruity and sour taste. The shape is elongated, oval to olive-like. The fruits vary in color from yellowish orange to light red to dark red.
The cornel, also called dirndl, herlitze or dürlitze, does not belong to the family of cherries but to the dogwood family. They are therefore not related but, thanks to their resemblance to cherries, have the same name. The Cornelian cherries grow on bushes and small trees. The bushes can be 100 years old. They have been cultivated for centuries in warmer European countries, but on a very small scale.

After the harvest, the cherries are washed, pitted and then gently dried with the help of the sun. The drying process used is a very environmentally friendly solar drying method that is extremely gentle on the product.
