Dried raisins contain the same nutrients as fresh grapes, only in a more concentrated form.
Raisins contain antioxidants, among other things. These prevent unwanted oxidation in our body. They are therefore also referred to as radial catchers. Through their contribution, the aging process of the cells is slowed down and a number of diseases can be reduced [1 and 3].
Equally interesting are the amino acids contained in raisins, above all valine, threonine, lysine, leucine and histidine [1 and 2].
Raisins contain a very high antioxidant capacity of up to 10450 µmol TE (ORAC value = Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacit).
By consuming foods rich in antioxidants, the defense mechanism in the body can be strengthened and an overproduction of free radicals can be balanced out. An ORAC daily requirement between 5000 and 7000 is recommended .
Khorog (Chorugh) is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, dating from the fourth or fifth century AD. It was an important traffic junction on the (southern) Silk Road, along which goods were transported from east to west and back for centuries. Thanks to the turbulent history of this city, the tastiest variety of raisins in the country was named GREEN KHOROG, which means green KHOROG raisins.
The organic Fairtrade Khorog raisins are light green, almost bright raisins. A few raisins are light brown to green-brown. The intense green color is retained thanks to gentle drying in the shade. The size is regular sized and they don't contain cores. The flesh and skin are very soft. The taste is intensely sweet and fruity.
Origin and manufacture:
We source our organic Fairtrade Green Khorog Raisins exclusively from Uzbekistan. The area is largely organic and FAIRTRADE certified and is farmed by the FAIRTRADE farmers who live there. The farmers belong to a large Fairtrade community made up of 3 groups, Dustkul Bogi, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. They include around 1,000 individual farmers, along with their families. Thanks to the cooperation with Fairtrade, the farmers can offer their families a secure income and their children a new perspective.
After harvesting, the green Khorog raisins are washed and then gently dried in the shade with the help of the sun. The drying process used is a very environmentally friendly solar drying method that is extremely gentle on the product.
In Austria the Green Khorog are pressure treated and laser cleaned. When it comes to printing, the interaction of pressure and time ensures absolute freedom from pests. During the subsequent multiple cleaning in the laser cleaning system, the organic raisins are individually checked to rule out any foreign contamination.
