Vital substances and things worth knowing:
Would you like a short excursion into biblical times?
The name of the currant comes from the fact that its fruits are usually ripe around St. John's Day (June 24th). In addition, the holy "John the Baptist" is said to have its name because he was born on June 24th, precisely in the currant season.
In many cultures, the currant is a symbol of a long life and good health. It was recognized early on that currants, with their kernels containing gamma-linolenic acid, could help with skin problems. Furthermore, the black currant is said to calm the nerves, put you in a good mood, strengthen the immune system, increase the ability to concentrate, stimulate the metabolism and strengthen the immune system. The berries contain vitamin C, fiber, potassium, iron, the coloring agent anthocyanin and have a high antioxidant capacity of 7957 µmol TE (ORAC value).
By consuming foods rich in antioxidants, the body's defense mechanism can be strengthened and an overproduction of free radicals can be balanced out. An ORAC daily requirement between 5000 and 7000 is recommended.3
Dried currants contain the same nutrients and vital substances as fresh currants, only in a concentrated form. They are therefore a very good and, above all, healthy source of vital substances for our body.
Description: Our super aromatic organic Fairtrade black currants are dark red to black and of course shiny. The consistency is soft. They hardly stick together. In terms of taste, they have a very intense and very fruity taste. They are pleasantly sweet and slightly sour.
Origin and manufacture: We source our organic Fairtrade currants exclusively from the picturesque surroundings in the highland valley of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. There these aromatic and very intensely fruity organic black currants grow in the hot and cloudless summers. The fields lie along the ancient Silk Road on which Alexander the Great crossed. The dry desert climate with little rainfall in summer is ideal for organic farming and the location on a plateau with strong temperature differences contributes to the intense aroma development.
The area is largely organic and FAIRTRADE certified and is cultivated by the FAIRTRADE farmers who live there. The farmers belong to a large Fairtrade community, which consists of 2 groups, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. Around 1000 individual farmers and their families belong to them. Thanks to the cooperation with Fairtrade, the farmers can offer their families a secure income and their children a new perspective.
Our deliciously sweet and fruity organic black currants are harvested by hand on our own certified organic plantations. The berries are first thoroughly cleaned and then the gentle solar drying takes place in raw food quality and hand sorting. The drying process used is a very environmentally friendly solar drying method that is extremely gentle on the product.
