sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is probably one of the oldest oil plants in the world and possibly one of the healthiest foods on our planet! Our black organic sesame ripens under the sunny Uzbek sky. It is nutty and aromatic in taste and has a different color than our normal black sesame. This is because the organic sesame is a wild variety and for this reason has several shades of black. The crispy grains are neither peeled nor subjected to similar processing steps.
Origin and production:
We source our organic black sesame exclusively from Uzbekistan / Samarkand. This is how we ensure that our high quality standards are maintained. The sesame plants grow in fields near Samarkand, where large parts of the region are certified organic. The large community consists of three groups of farmers - Dustkul Bogi, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. Thanks to this, over 1,000 farmers and their families can secure their livelihoods and offer their children new opportunities. After the harvest, the sesame seeds are threshed out of the "ears". Then they are checked several times for quality and dryness. The drying process itself is carried out locally and gently until the seeds reach the required degree of drying.
In Austria, the seeds are pressure treated to ensure that the product is completely free from pests. Open Sesame!
