sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is probably one of the oldest oil plants in the world and possibly one of the healthiest foods on our planet! Our black organic sesame ripens under the sunny sky of Uzbekistan. It has a nutty and aromatic taste and is a different color than our regular black sesame. This is because the organic sesame is a wild variety and for this reason has several shades of black. The crispy grains are neither shelled nor subjected to similar processing steps.
Origin and production:
We obtain our organic black sesame exclusively from Uzbekistan / Samarkand. This is how we ensure that our high quality standards are met. The sesame plants grow in fields near Samarkand, where much of the region is certified organic. The large community consists of three farming groups - Dustkul Bogi, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. Thanks to this, more than 1,000 farmers and their families can secure their livelihood and offer their children new opportunities. After the harvest, the sesame seeds are threshed out of the "ears". Then they are checked several times for quality and dryness. The drying process itself is carried out locally and gently until the seeds reach the required degree of drying.
In Austria the seeds are pressure treated to ensure the product is completely pest free. Open Sesame!
It's a miracle that this little seed contains so many nutrients! In addition to high amounts of healthy oil and protein, sesame is a source of vitamin E, which is responsible for protecting the valuable unsaturated fatty acids from oxidation and is therefore responsible for the long shelf life of sesame oil. No wonder sesame oil was the oil of choice in Chinese cooking until recently. Sesame also contains high amounts of the water-soluble vitamins folate and niacin. Among the numerous functions of folic acid, you've probably heard of its crucial role in tissue growth during pregnancy. Sesame is a mineral and trace element bomb with, among other things, an amazingly high calcium content. The high bioavailability of this mineral makes sesame an excellent source of calcium for vegans and people with lactose intolerance. Calcium is not only essential for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, but also for normal muscle function, neurotransmission and the normal function of digestive enzymes. Forget supplements, our black sesame provides you with the necessary magnesium to ensure normal muscle function and normal electrolyte balance, as well as normal protein synthesis and normal bones and teeth. In addition, sesame is a good source of iron, zinc and copper, all important trace elements that are essential for the normal functioning of our body. In addition to vitamin E, sesame contains compounds called lignans whose effectiveness as free radical scavengers is well documented. Below is a list of the most important vitamins and minerals in our black sesame:
